Should You Hire an Expert for Journal Article Editing?

I’ve been wondering if it’s truly worth it to hire an expert for journal article editing or if self-editing with tools is enough. On one hand, experts bring a professional touch and ensure clarity, grammar, and formatting standards are spot on. On the other hand, it can be costly, and some argue that peer reviews already catch most mistakes. What do you all think are professionals necessary, or can diligent self-editing do the job just as well?
